Greedy Readers Book Club
Young women who like to read: Join our monthly book club! We read your favorites, like "Brazen, Rebel Ladies Who Rocked the World" and "for colored girls". We write, too. This is our 6th year of meeting. New members welcome. Pizza served.
Need some help with homework? Want to strengthen writing skills? Mighty Writers to the rescue! Sign up or drop-in to work one-on-one or in small groups with a Mighty volunteer. Whatever your writing and homework needs are, be sure to bring them to us!
Mighty Elementary Academy
This after school program for grades 3-5 helps children develop proficient/advanced writing skills. We'll complete writing projects, build community, and have fun along the way! Homework help and snack provided. Application and interview required.
Mighty Teen Scholars
We read African American Literature that we don't see in our schools. Writing leads to thought-provoking discussions about issues effecting us and our community. We write persuasive essays, fiction & case studies.
Middle Grades Academy
This after school program for grades 6-8 helps youth develop proficient/advanced writing skills. We'll complete writing projects, build community, and have fun along the way! Homework help and snack provided. Application and interview required.
Come and spend a few hours in educational fun with your toddlers. This weekly play session is family fun. Bring your toddlers and prepare to have an amazing time learning with your Mighty Toddler.
Family Write Night - May 28
Join us for a night of intergenerational writing. We’ll explore topics like culture, family history & mightiness, providing opportunities for kids and adults to share ideas, share stories & write together! Be ready to play games, too. Light dinner served.
Get Published, Teens!
This program is for teens who love to write and want to see their work in print. With the help of professional writers as coaches, we'll write, revise, and submit our work to publications and competitions that feature teen writing.
Mighty Writers knows just how critical it is for kids to read on grade level by 4th grade. Kids in this program will read one-on-one with an adult each week to strengthen literacy skills, journal, and develop a love of reading.
Young Greedy Readers
Preteen and young teen girls who like to read: Join our monthly book club! We'll read about diverse girl characters who face challenges and defy expectations. Selections include "The Skin I'm In" and "The Education of Margot Sanchez." Dinner served.
Summer Teen Scholars
We get prepared for college, via conversations and writing. We read books you won't get in high school. We raise the bar. Summer Trip TBA.
Graphic Stories Camp
Illustrations are an important part of telling a strong story. This week is all about putting pictures with text. We'll read comic books, graphic novels, and picture books and then create our own! Trip TBD. Lunch provided.
Teen Scholars South Open House
Come join us for an evening with the Teen Scholars of Mighty Writers South. Writing leads to thought-provoking discussions about issues effecting us and our community. We write persuasive essays and creative fiction . Pizza will be served.
Avoid the summer slide and be prepared for school. Work one-on-one or in small groups to work on individual writing or reading goals.
Relax, Relate, Release Camp
We will practice yoga and mindfulness techniques, providing tools to understand the mind and body. Learn to cultivate empathy, skills for concentration as well as skills to overcome challenges through writing and open discussions. Trip to Magic Gardens.
We will be introduced the various forms of how to properly critique a film. We will watch classic films, develop a plot for own film and write a scene for our own scripts. We will also sharpen our acting chops. Trip to the Barnes Museum! Lunch provided.
Write Your Revolution Camp
We’ll learn about social change, read the works of revolutionary writers and poets, and discuss the pressing issues of today issues and write revolutionary declarations for change and take them to City Hall. Lunch provided.
Give Me A Beat Camp
We’ll reflect on the social impact of musical movements both past and present. We’ll also create and write our own original song while playing musical instruments. Trip to the Academy of Natural Sciences. Lunch provided.
Fan Fiction Writers
Watch and talk about your favorite movies or series; then, put your own spin on them! Add characters or change them. Tell a story from a different perspective. Write a new ending or a missing scene. The story becomes yours when you write fanfiction!
Game On! Camp
Game On is a game creation camp full of fun! We'll explore many fascinating concepts and then turn it into a game for others to play! We’ll end our of the week with a trip to the Franklin Institute. Lunch provided.
