In 2025, Mighty Writers entered an important new chapter following a major leadership transition. After the retirement of founding Executive Director Tim Whitaker in July 2025, Dr. Corinne Green, a longtime board member, Mighty Writers parent, and dedicated advocate, was appointed Executive Director to guide the organization forward.

Dr. Green brings deep personal and professional alignment to Mighty Writers’ mission. She served on Mighty Writers’ Board of Directors for more than four years, including two years as Vice Chair, and has long understood the organization’s role as more than a literacy program. Her connection is rooted in both lived experience and family experience. Having grown up in public housing and benefited from community-based opportunities as a young person, Dr. Green understands the importance of organizations that provide children and families with access, support, and a sense of possibility. Her commitment deepened as a parent after enrolling her own children in Mighty Writers and seeing the impact on their confidence, growth, and sense of belonging.

Dr. Green first stepped into the role of Interim Executive Director in September 2025 before being appointed Executive Director. Her leadership has brought a renewed focus on reflection, listening, accountability, and long-term sustainability. Mighty Writers used this transition year to better understand how to serve our communities with greater focus and impact while strengthening the internal systems needed to support that work.

This period of reflection also led to important financial repositioning. Mighty Writers strengthened operations, refined financial systems, and made strategic decisions to ensure our programs remain sustainable for the children and families who depend on us. These changes were not just about finances; they were about protecting access, preserving trust, and ensuring Mighty Writers can continue to show up where we are needed most.
