A donor-advised fund, or DAF, is a philanthropic vehicle established at a public charity. It allows donors to make a charitable contribution, receive an immediate tax benefit, and then recommend grants from the fund over time.
In 2016, there were approximately 285,000 individual donor-advised funds across the country. Donors contributed $23 billion to these donor-advised funds and used them to recommend almost $16 billion in grants to qualified charities.
