Mighty Writers Launches Mental Health Initiative
PHILADELPHIA - As kids have grappled with the changes to their school lives due to the pandemic and increasing gun violence, we've seen the way their mental health is affected.
And it's not just us - recent research shows that we are in a national mental health crisis when it comes to kids, with rising ER visits and rates of youth suicide.
Finding ways to address anxiety and depression and more has become increasingly important to us.
That's why we've started a mental health initiative: #MentalHealthIsMighty.
We want children and teens to know that they don't have to to feel this way forever; there is help.
And asking for that help, getting treatment if necessary, doesn't make you weak. In fact, you have to be strong and empowered to advocate for yourself. That's not always easy to do, but it's nothing to be ashamed of.
We also want parents to know that there are resources available if their child is having trouble. We've gathered some of those resources in our new Mental Health Resource Guides for Philadelphia County.
In these booklets, printed in Spanish and English, you'll find information about how to get mental health assistance with or without insurance; agencies that provide mental health services to children and teens; information about what to do if a kid is in crisis; online resources; and outdoor organizations that can help elevate mood and serve as healthy outlets.
Links to the booklets are below. Feel free to print them out, download them, and share them liberally.
